Postpartum Therapy

Life with a new baby is rarely what we expect. It can be beautiful and draining, connecting and isolating, often within the same hour. You may feel deep love one moment and a sense of distance the next. You may be proud of what your body and mind have done, and also grieving the life, the routines or the sense of self you had before. If your experience doesn’t match what you thought it would be, you’re in good company.

The postpartum period is one of the biggest transitions a woman goes through. It brings hormonal changes, broken sleep, physical recovery, and a new level of responsibility, often with less support than people expect. Many parents notice anxiety, low mood, irritability, worry that won’t switch off, or a feeling of being overwhelmed. Others find that a difficult birth, changes in their relationship, or pressure from family and social media makes the adjustment harder. These experiences are common, and they are not a sign that you are failing or that you don’t love your baby. They are a sign that you are carrying a lot.

This is not only about the first few weeks. Feelings can appear at any point in the first year and beyond, sometimes well after everyone around you has stopped checking in. It also isn’t only mothers: partners, adoptive parents and parents after loss can struggle too.

Therapy offers a gentle, judgment-free place to talk about what this season is really like, from the lack of sleep to the shifts in your relationships and in how you see yourself. It can help you make sense of your feelings, build practical ways to cope, and feel less alone. You don’t need a diagnosis, and you don’t need to be at a breaking point to reach out. We’ll meet you where you are, at your pace.
